Max Mathews lab (1984) Bob Rocco plays Max's Electronic Drum
A very young Bob Rocco rehearsing his Toccata, the first piece composed for Max Mathews first generation intelligent controller. At the time the instrument didn't have a name, but eventually Max settled on "Electronic Drum."
Max's Electronic Drum worked with a Z80 64k microcomputer and Krumar synthesizer.
Max Mathews lab (1986) Bob Rocco demos the 2nd generation Electronic Drum
This 2nd gen Electronic Drum piece is Bob Rocco's monophonic variation of the original toccata. Max took this video to demonstrate his new conducting software program called RTLET on the AT&T PC 6300 (pictured). With only a single command, the computer plays the entire performance by itself through a DX7 synhesizer (pictured), without conducting it directly using the Electronic Drum.
